Royal Brunswick Park
Key Details
Overview
Royal Brunswick Park is a planned mixed-use development by Comer Homes in New Southgate, London N11.
The 45-acre site will deliver 2,400 new apartments and houses to the North London Business Park.
Once complete, this will be one of London’s largest mixed-use developments and will feature a brand-new secondary school (St. Andrew the Apostle Greek Orthodox School), gymnasium, and sports facilities, as well as multiple large public parks.
The site is designed to incorporate vast public parks and wild habitats that are specially intended to foster and stimulate the local fauna. Various ecological features planned include:
- Biodiverse living roof areas – Designed as expansive wildflower blankets and biosolar rooftops.
- Supplemental and improved tree plantation – To help increase the area's greenery.
- Wildlife-friendly landscaping – Implemented by including plant species that significantly benefit local wildlife.
- Bird and bat boxes – To provide homes for local avian and bat populations.
- A sensitive lighting strategy – Designed to reduce any negative impacts on wildlife.
- Invertebrate enhancement features – To support the growth and development of insect populations.
Bee bricks – To provide habitat and nesting sites for bees.
Stag beetle loggeries – Created to accommodate and encourage the presence of stag beetles.
Wildlife-sensitive management – Ensuring the maintenance of the area keeps local wildlife in mind.
History
The first manufacturing in the area, the North View Photographic and Stereoscopic Works, was opened in 1898. This was followed in 1922 by a major electronics firm, Standard Telephone and Cables (STC). At its peak, STC had about 10,000 employees.
