The Royal Court Apartments at 51 Gloucester Terrace caught fire last week 27. February 2013. From London Fire Brigade announcement:

A fire broke out in a hotel and apartment complex on Gloucester Terrace in Bayswater, W2 today. A lift shaft, part of the fourth and fifth floors, and part of the roof was damaged in the blaze. A number of people were evacuated before the arrival of the Brigade, but no injuries were reported.

Station Manager Nick Comery, who was at the scene, said:

"Firefighters worked hard and did well tackle a challenging and well developed fire. Fifteen people escaped from the building before the crews arrived and thankfully no one was hurt. Our fire investigation team is now working to determine what caused the blaze."

Twenty fire engines from Paddington, Willesden, Kensington, Soho, West Hampstead, Belsize, North Kensington, Euston, Shoreditch, Ealing, Hornsey, Tooting, Hammersmith, Whitechapel, Holloway, and Heston fire stations went to the scene with 120 firefighters and officers.

The Brigade was called at 1128 and the fire was under control at 1516. Firefighters will remain at the scene for some time damping down and making sure all hotspots are fully extinguished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
