Completion

One of London’s most eagerly anticipated new developments in London, The Stage, has now been completed. The £750 million luxury project resurrects the legacy of William Shakespeare’s Curtain Theatre in Shoreditch EC2.

Developed by Galliard HomesThe Stage is a 37-storey tower comprising 412 apartments, with a luxury sky terrace and state-of-the-art underground amusement arcade, alongside a vibrant array of lifestyle amenities and the preserved archaeological remains of Shakespeare’s iconic playhouse.

New Residences

Brand new studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are available for sale, with over half of the apartments having been sold off-plan. The first residents are now moving into homes that offer a blend of Art Deco glamour and industrial chic, designed by award-winning Nicola Fontanella of Argent Design.

The Stage is accessed through a glamorous double-height lobby with a 24-hour concierge and an Art Deco-style blending of glamour and industrial chic elements. The tower’s superb apartments and penthouses offer a high specification of design, with a private balcony for every home. The apartments have natural oak engineered flooring, brushed bronze and exposed brick details. For relaxing, there is programmable mood lighting in living areas and bedrooms, with a Sonos Play 1 multi-room speaker system. To each living room is a bespoke entertainment unit with steel framing and mesh shelving, with 50” LED smart TV and Sonos playbar.

The chic kitchens offer bespoke oak units with white quartz worktops, black track lighting and integrated appliances (Miele oven, induction hob, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, Siemens fridge). For studio suites, Crittall-style doors separate the living and bedroom areas, with mirrored sliding doors cleverly hiding the kitchens for some suites.

The bathrooms offer ceramic herringbone tiling to the floors, feature terrazzo recess with glass shelving, white suite units with black details and Crittall-style shower doors, plus a 22” tile vision LCD TV either over the bath or in-shower.

Bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobes to maximise storage. Living areas and bedrooms have comfort cooling, with an audio/visual entryphone system and 24-hour security.

Prospective residents are eagerly awaiting the release of the exclusive four-bedroom duplex penthouses next year.

There is a new two-bedroom show apartment on the 19th floor with a warm colour palette of crimson, cream and bronze, with further show apartments to be announced.

Amenities

The tower’s two basement levels are dedicated to entertainment and lifestyle amenities spanning 13,700 sq ft, with a special Games & Amenities Concierge in addition to the hotel-style concierge. The vibrant games arcade has a bespoke duckpin bowling alley, golf simulator, and extensive collection of classic arcade games including a dance machine, Pac-Man, Mortal Kombat, racing games and more. For groups, there is a pool table, Air Hockey, and table tennis. To one side is a sleek BYOB bar perfect for socialising with friends, with plush seating throughout. The back wall features a bespoke art piece by Global Street Art, with neon lighting and framed prints throughout the space.

The dual screening rooms pay homage to Shakespeare, with framed movie posters of screen adaptions of his plays. Residents can book screening rooms for private film nights, and food delivery can be organised right to your seat through the dedicated concierge. For hybrid working, there is a large 12-seater boardroom alongside a smaller meeting room, with cosy booths and comfortable breakout space. There is a large gym with mixed equipment, changing rooms and a separate yoga studio.

The sky lounge and terrace on the 32nd floor offer a luxury space to relax. There is an Art Deco-style bar with opulent seating, opening onto the stunning terrace with seating, landscaping, and expansive views of London’s skyline. Through the dedicated concierge, residents can book the sky terrace, golf simulator or bowling alley for private parties with friends, with the option of organising catering from local restaurants. Award-winning Rhodium is appointed for the property management, with a curated schedule of residents’ activities to launch.

Offices, Retail & More

The new 2.3-acre site is a mix of the old and the new, with two additional sleek office blocks offering 257,000 sq ft of prime commercial space, complemented by 60,000 sq ft of retail and dining areas, plus a performing arts pavilion.

The site will also be home to the new Museum of Shakespeare, set to open its doors in 2024, where the archaeological ruins, discovered between 2011 and 2016, will play a central role.

The Stage caters to the modern professional with a 12-seater boardroom and hybrid working facilities. Wellness is not overlooked, with a fully equipped gym, a yoga studio, and a stunning sky lounge and terrace on the 32nd floor, providing an Art Deco-styled sanctuary with panoramic views of London’s skyline.

The Continuation of a Legacy

During excavations 2011-16, the historic remains of the Elizabethan Curtain Theatre, dating back to 1577, were uncovered some three metres below the surface of the development. The remains and objects found during the dig have been carefully evacuated, painstakingly preserved and transformed into a cultural centrepiece within the development. Working alongside Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA), Historic England and panel of Shakespearean academics, the new Museum of Shakespeare will use new AI-technology to bring the theatre to life. Plays once performed here included the debut of Shakespeare’s Henry V alongside Romeo and Juliet. The Curtain Theatre was the main venue for Shakespeare and his company, The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, around 1597-99 before The Globe was built.

The Stage has an amazing location with Liverpool Street Station just a 5-minute walk away. A journey from Liverpool Street to Canary Wharf takes six minutes, Tottenham Court Road five minutes and Bond Street seven minutes on the Elizabeth Line.

David Galman, Sales Director for The Stage commented: “We are delighted to unveil The Stage, our striking residential tower now complete. The Stage forms part of a new cultural hub for Londoners, transforming this historic site from Shakespeare’s times into a modern destination for the 21st century. Today’s buyers want access to state-of-the-art amenities, and this is where The Stagestands out, with our underground amusement arcade, flexible workspaces and stunning sky terrace overlooking London. We are very proud to show the lifestyle on offer, an unparalleled experience in a sought-after location. Given the significance of this site, it has been a combined effort with our partners to bring the vision to life into a landmark development for future generations to enjoy.”
