Westminster Council has marked the completion of the highest point of the new residential building at Dudley House, which will feature accommodation for key workers.
The regeneration project also features a new site for Marylebone Boys’ School, a church as well as commercial and retail space. The school's new building has opened with a capacity for 600 pupils, with this to increase to 840.
Cllr Rachael Robathan, Cabinet Member for Finance, Property and Regeneration at Westminster City Council, commented: “Westminster is one of the most challenging environments in which to provide affordable housing but we have pledged to deliver this across all parts of the city.
“This scheme is clearly significant to our target of providing a minimum of 1,850 affordable homes by 2023 and, what with the development including Marylebone Boys School and other community facilities, is important to our objective of creating vibrant and successful neighbourhoods.”
The residential units will be in a 23-storey tower and are scheduled to be completed in May 2019 along with the church and commercial aspect of the project, which is being delivered in conjunction with Willmott Dixon Construction.
Available for intermediate rent – which means housing provided at a cost above social rent but below market levels - to those living or working in Westminster, the 197 residential units will be a mix of one and two-bedroom properties. This includes space for 36 medical staff members – in 20 of the new homes – working at King Edward VII Hospital.
