Roof Garden
Crossrail Place Roof Garden is 300 metres long above the new station has a timber-latticed roof and is filled with tropical plants native to countries visited by ships of the West India Dock Company who unloaded their wares in this very location 200 years ago.
The amphitheatre is an 80 seater performance space that hosts a programme of festivals, performance and music here which is known as ‘Bloom’. All events delivered In the Bloom programme are free.
The Roof Garden is free to visit and is open to the public daily until 9pm or sunset in summer.
Crossrail Canary Wharf
Crossrail Canary Wharf is the new station on the Elizabeth Line. The 250 metre-long station box is surrounded by the water of West India Quay dock. The station is 18 metres below water level.
The station ticket hall is accessed via eight long-rise escalators from the promenade level entrances at either end of the building. A visual connection between the station platforms and the concourse level above is achieved through the use of large openings between the two floors and a central spine of vertical circulation reinforced by the use of colour and light.
The Crossrail Act received royal assent on 23 July 2008 – construction commenced in 2009 and the line is expected to open in 2022.
Initially, 12 10-car trains per hour will be operating in each direction to Paddington, Heathrow Airport and Maidenhead in the west and Shenfield, Stratford, Abbey Wood and Woolwich in the east.
