Overview

John Lewis department store building on Oxford Street in London W1.

The building has five upper floors above ground and lower ground. There is a top level Willow terrace open to public dining at the cafe/restaurant on the 5th floor.

Established in 1864 by Hampshire draper John Lewis, the John Lewis Oxford Street store has since become a prominent retail destination. Initially situated at 132 Oxford Street, the brand expanded in 1905 with the acquisition of Peter Jones in Sloane Square. In 1920, John Spedan Lewis, John Lewis's son, founded the John Lewis Partnership, a distinctive business model that empowers employees through involvement in company decisions.

World War II inflicted significant damage upon the Oxford Street store, prompting its reconstruction in 1953. The store has undergone numerous expansions, solidifying its position as one of the UK's largest department stores. It features an extensive product selection, including apparel, homewares, furniture, and electronics, as well as various dining establishments.
